Williams Lake Hospice Society
Williams Lake Hospice Society (WLHS) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization which has been operating in Williams Lake and area for over 20 years. It is the mission of the Williams Lake Hospice Society to provide a volunteer service dedicated to supporting those persons approaching end of life or those living with an advanced or life threatening illness, as well as respite, support and bereavement services for their families and friends in the Williams Lake area. Hospice palliative care refers to 'holistic care' of the individual.
This care is based on a commitment to the whole person and refers to a 'program of care' rather than a place. WLHS receives referrals for Hospice services from Cariboo Memorial Hospital, local physicians, Home & Community Care nurses, Williams Lake Senior's Village, Deni House, Mental Health, self-referrals and from within the community.
Our volunteers provide supportive visiting for our palliative clients in their homes and in community care facilities on a 24 hour/7 days/week (on an as-needed/as-available basis), in addition to bereavement support. WLHS also provides anticipatory grief and bereavement support materials to clients and their families. Our resource library is available to clients, their families and the general public. We loan out sheepskins and other comfort items to our clients upon request. Williams Lake Hospice is responsible for two dedicated palliative care suites as well as a family room in Deni House.
